On the Dorset Coast of Southern England, there is a site that has become world famous as the Jurassic Coast, designated as a geological World Heritage Site. Some of the cliffs contain a very thick sequence of Kimmeridge Clay. The clay and the resistant yellow-brown dolomite layers create a wonderful concert of colours, which with the changing marine light sometimes look red, or orange, with pinks and ochres.

I’ve tried to capture these colours and the bands of the rock formation, which are washed by the sea as the harder bands of limestone create a series of rocky ledges that run out to the sea.

Although a world heritage site, the colours of the sea and the sky are quintessentilly English.
