Steve Bruce was a professional footballer for Norwich, Manchester United and Birmingham City. He became a successful club manager, and took over the reins at Newcastle United in February 2019. He managed the club through the COVID-19 pandemic, keeping them in the Premier League. He left in November 2021 following the club's takeover by the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund.
In this portrait, I try to capture the signs of the enormous pressure and stress Bruce endured.
